Assessment for adults

Dyslexia does not disappear in adulthood. Many adults have managed their difficulties for years without ever receiving a formal diagnosis. Whether you are returning to education, facing challenges in the workplace, or simply seeking answers, we can help.

Further education

Support access to reasonable accommodations for college, university, or professional training.

Workplace support

A formal diagnosis can support reasonable adjustments under the Equality Acts in both Ireland and the UK.

Personal understanding

Many adults simply want to understand why certain things have always been difficult. A diagnosis can bring real clarity and relief.

Full written report

Every adult assessment includes a comprehensive written report suitable for educational institutions, employers, or personal records.

The adult assessment process

Adult assessments are designed to be thorough, respectful of your experience, and entirely confidential. Here is what to expect.

Adult Assessment, Step by Step

Typically two to three hours in total

  • 1
    Consultation
The session begins with a detailed conversation covering three areas of your life through the lens of literacy and learning: your educational experience from primary through to third level; your daily life and how literacy affects everyday tasks; and your work life, including any challenges you have encountered in professional settings. This is not a test, it is a chance to share your story in your own words.
    Approximately 30 minutes
  • 2
    Assessment
Following the consultation, you will complete a standardised assessment of reading, writing, spelling, and phonological processing. This is conducted at a comfortable pace in a private, relaxed setting. The tasks are designed for adults and reflect real-world literacy demands rather than school-style tests.
    Approximately 1 hour
  • 3
    Feedback
At the end of the session, Niall will share his initial findings with you and answer any questions you have. A full written report follows, which you can use for educational institutions, employers, or your own records.
    30-45 minutes

Your report is yours. The written report will clearly state any diagnosis, explain the assessment findings in plain language, and include practical recommendations. It is yours to share with whoever you choose, a college disability service, HR department, or GP.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral from my GP or school?
No. Adults can refer themselves directly to our service. Simply get in touch and we will guide you through the next steps.
I am in my 30s / 40s / 50s, is it too late to be assessed?
Absolutely not. We assess adults of all ages. Many people come to us having managed their difficulties for decades.
Will the assessment tell me whether I have dyslexia?
Yes. Following the assessment, Niall will provide a clear clinical opinion on whether the findings are consistent with a dyslexia diagnosis, alongside a detailed explanation of your specific profile of strengths and difficulties.
Will my employer or college accept the report?
Our reports are written to professional standards and are accepted by the vast majority of third-level institutions and employers. If you have any specific requirements, please mention this when you get in touch.
What is the cost?
Adult assessments are €550. This includes the consultation, the full assessment, a feedback session, and a comprehensive written report. There are no hidden extras.
